New Rules in the Era of Sustainable Marketing
Navigating your Social Impact Career is like Tandem Skydiving: Don’t go it alone.
It’s time to bend, break and rewrite the rules of engagement
These are turbulent, uncertain times. As climate change drives catastrophic weather events, political discourse creates a “new normal.” Rules are broken. Which means some rules no longer apply. This creates challenges but also opportunities for marketers, and the business leaders who rely on communication experts to protect brand reputation. Living at the intersection of technology, sustainability and marketing, we must enlist our customers, and more broadly all stakeholders to ensure that business becomes a force for social and environmental benefit.

According to the United States Parachute Association, “a person is much more likely to be killed getting struck by lightning” then to be killed skydiving. Tandem skydiving is 2.5x times safer. So whether your resolving in this New Year to check off this life experience from your bucket list, or considering a new career move, I want to convey one simple, but important lesson: Don’t go it alone.
Linking your passion and your career may be the most rewarding aspect of a career one can achieve, regardless of status in the organization. Finding your passion requires reflection, and only you can be responsible for how it perpetuates in your career.
